The Mathematics Learning Center is a place for students to study and to receive assistance with mathematics courses of the 100-level or below. Tutors are available to assist students Monday through Friday. For more information, go to Mathematics Learning Center.

The goal of the Center and its tutors is to help the student develop a deeper understanding of how concepts are connected and how to use the information in many applications. The tutors will not just tell the student how to solve a problem, but rather, help them discover how to use what they already know to develop the steps to the solution.

Each time the brain recalls information, it relearns. The tutors in the Center encourage this learning process through questions which can be referred to as the Socratic Method. Another method is called the didactic method which is a more direct method of explaining a topic. The two methods can be used alternatively when needed to help the student make connections.
