A study cycle can be applied to any topic that you are learning. It takes into consideration what is physically happening to the brain. (See Neuroscience and Education) This includes that we need to work with information four to seven times before it gets stored in our long term memory and that each time we recall a topic, we relearn it. The study cycle shown here was developed for the developmental mathematics courses but it can be applied to any learning sequence for any topic once you understand the changes that are occuring in the brain with each step. The cycle takes place over a period of time which may vary. This cycle for the topics of one lecture in developmental mathematics takes place over about one week's time. This cycle helps get the information to your long term memory so that it can be recalled and reused for future learning and applications. You need to keep reviewing and recalling information to maintain the memory. Use it or lose it. |
