An Exponent of Zero

Two Motivation Examples that Use the Division Property:

Note the result is always one.

Exponent of Zero. When a nonzero value is raised to the zero power, the result is one.

General Property: a 0 = 1, when a ≠ 0. (Note that division by zero is undefined.)

Examples:     70 = 1

80 = 1

(xy)0 = 1   provided x ≠ 0 and y ≠ 0
